Major Taylor Iron Riders
is an African American New York City based recreational cycling club that was formed in 2005. Our name is derived from two historic African American cycling milestones. The first is Marshall “Major” Taylor ; in 1898 Major Taylor became the world's first African American cycling champion. The second name “Iron riders” comes from the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps at Fort Missoula , Montana . The 25th Infantry Regiment was made up of black men, known as buffalo soldiers who in 1897 completed a remarkable 1,900-mile trip from Missoula to St. Louis , Missouri .

Major Taylor Iron Riders is a non profit 501(c) 3 Corporation. The club is made up of cyclists of all levels from all over the tri-state area. Our mission is to promote the joys, the health benefits and the camaraderie of cycling. Membership is open to anyone regardless of race, creed or gender. Anyone who owns or rides a Road Bike, Mountain Bike, or Track Bike is welcome to join the club. Many of our members are fascinating people and life long cyclists. Several have ridden for over twenty years. We want to share that experience with new members. The club is made up of two branches. There is the Touring team and the Racing team.

What ever your level of riding is, we have a place for you. Rides take place every weekend and the season consists of several out of town rides. Experience our Wednesday night training rides for all categories in Prospect Park and Central Park . If you like to ride a bike, want to be fit for life or just want to have fun and meet interesting people, than come join us. We're building the largest African American cycling club in the tri-state area.    For more Information about Major Taylor and Iron Riders click below:
